Colorful Cambridge Pt.2

“Travel far enough, you meet yourself” – David Mitchell

How is it that you can easily get consumed by everything going on in your life? It feels like in the blink of an eye so much has happened! It’s exhilarating realizing that a positive mentality will eventually bring you positive outcomes.

So what do I do with all my positivity? Clean out my bank account and book myself a trip to California! Yes, I’m broke, happy and going to Cali! But that’s a story for another day…

It has been weeks since I last wrote and I never finished my story on my trip to Cambridge, Massachusetts. [Read part one]

Ah yes, Claire, Damaris, Stephany and myself just finished our trip to Harvard University and are now headed to dinner. Claire picked a nice little spot, Grendel’s Den Restaurant and Bar located on Harvard Square. Grendel has half price hours from 5-7:30pm where most items on their menu are half priced! (yes, we caught the special!) Also, the portion’s of food served are spectacular! We were all so full. I’m not sure how we managed not to take a nap right there and then.

Damaris had a chocolate craving so next thing you know we ended up at L.A. Burdick Chocolate Cafe, also located in Harvard Square. The place was small and chic with limited seating. Luckily, we managed to score a table while Damaris ate her chocolate cake. I was super excited because as I bought my first macaroon ever (yes, ever!) there was a French couple right next to me speaking Français! Talk about the full French experience. So as any other moment when I’m indulging in French culture, I freak out and start eavesdropping; feeling super proud of myself that I understand the couple I start saying French words like a total creep. After, my moment of excitement it was time to take a bite of my hazelnut macaroon…it was perfect.

We continued our walk in Harvard Square and decided to have a few beers at Charlie’s Kitchen. We found outside seating by the fire and our shivers from the cold wind quickly disappeared. You don’t realize how much you miss catching up with your friends until you sit down and look back at the moment. It’s a great reminder as to why the friendship exist. Distance isn’t a problem for true friendships.

We then find ourselves at Alden and Harlow an upscale place known for its fancy cocktails and snacks. I decided to get the Common Place cocktail (Gin, Sage, Clove Honey, Lemon, Benedictine and Egg White.) I am happy to say that I ended up getting the best cocktail out of the group!
**FYI this is a great date night place!

We ended our night in Harvard Square at Hong Kong Restaurant which, is also a lounge and a nightclub. The night consisted of a Scorpion Bowl, a dancing bouncer and an unexpected dance battle! With exhaustion sucking our bodies dry of energy, we headed off back to the apartment pleased with our great day!

Sunday arrived and so did our departure. We were truly saddened by the end of such a refreshing weekend.

But before leaving we had breakfast at The Friendly Toast. What an amazing breakfast! Located in Kendall Square, The Friendly Toast is a superb breakfast and brunch restaurant with a hipster vibe and a unique menu. The service was amazing and the food beyond delicious! I couldn’t have been more satisfied with everything.

Every time I travel I discover something new wether it be about the people I’m with, the location or myself. This trip helped me discover the possibility I thought I lost. It helped me remember that, “Thinking here goes nothing could be the start of everything” – Drew Wagner
I am truly proud of Claire for taking that leap into the unknown. She made a new home for herself and seemed so happy with her new life. It was truly inspiring to see her in her element. We all need to take that leap because we might find true happiness where we least expect it.

Time for a Vacation!

Every once in awhile it’s important we take a break from daily stress, work, routine and everything else that composes our hectic lives. Believe it or not it’s super easy to forget to give yourself a break…you get caught up in everything going on in your life and trying to better yourself, that you lose focus and forget that treating yourself should be a part of bettering yourself. Yupp…that was me. I graduated college and didn’t celebrate, not a party, vacation or even a shopping spree. I was too focused on moving on to the next phase of my life, (I felt behind schedule) that I forgot to enjoy the moment and celebrate my accomplishments.

So I graduated, struggled, and finally landed my first full time job. Months later, my friend asked me if I wanted to go to Cancun for her Birthday… I somehow snapped out of it. I thought about the last time I left the country…Study Abroad Fall 2012 to Brussels, Belgium…it’s 2015! Yea, I was going!

I’m telling you, when you put your mind into something and you are determined to make it happen…it happens…because in the next few weeks I was off to Cancun, Mexico.

Four and a half days in Cancun, Mexico.

I can sit here and write stories but instead I’ll give a list of highlights:

  1. We swam with dolphins (Solomon and Sydney.) Why they chose to name a dolphin Solomon? Who knows.
  2. We went to an island, “Isla de las Mujeres” – the Island of Women, where we did most of our souvenir shopping. We also spent most of our time there looking for our friends who we lost… we shall keep that story in Cancun.
  3. On our way to the island we snorkeled! SUPER PROUD OF MYSELF! because I can’t swim.
  4. We went out to the clubs and got VIP all night! YES to us!
  5. We ate authentic Mexican Quesadillas.
  6. We met a bunch of Canadians.
  7. We ate at almost every restaurant in the resort.
  8. We took the local bus more than once and experienced Mexican cockroaches… bugs suck in every country! Wish I took a picture of my friend literally standing on her seat the entire bus ride to the hotel!
  9. I sang with a Mariachi!! I must say that was a dream come true!
  10. Took tequila shots!

Overall, it was a good trip! Just like any vacation with your girls we had our moments but in the end it was money well spent! I can’t say I’m pressed to return but maybe one day Cancun and I will meet again.

The Tree

I told myself that before the year ended I wanted to go see the tree!

 Rockefeller tree in NYC.

There’s just something about the tree that makes me want to smile! I remember going to see it when I was a little girl and being genuinely happy! What better way to start the new year than to feel that genuinely happy about something so simple as a Christmas tree? For a second, I thought I wasn’t going to be able to go see it. I was booked almost every weekend and I only had until today, January 7, 2015 to go see it. So with the help of my best friend we made it happen! This past Sunday, after seeing so many people on social media post pictures with it, I was finally able to go see it for myself and with one of my best friends!

According to my friend she hates NYC tourist attractions (mainly because she lives there.) However, once we got close to the tree, she was the first to start taking pictures! There’s just something about that tree that makes everyone burst into a smile! So here’s a little advise for everyone! Don’t underestimate the simple things or tourist attractions because you never know what you may get out of it! I got a night filled with happiness, laughter and smiles with my best friend….not too bad if you ask me!
